The Chirag School, envisions their students to be independent life long learners, by providing a modern and stimulating environment to children from financially disadvantaged backgrounds, where they can develop their mind and practice living in harmony with nature and society. Where one learns about "mud bricks" and "micro chips" at the same time !
Do have a look at the short video on the school to get a feel for the space:
The school at present has 120 students (class I to V only) and 10 teachers (incl the Principal) and spends about Rs 24,000 p.a to deliver high quality education to each of its students. Parents pay about Rs 1,800-2,000 p.a as fees and the balance is funded through donations / contributions.
Last year in Jan-2020 i had raised about Rs 1.25 lacs for the school by running the full marathon at the Tata Mumbai Marathon.
The pandemic impacted the school also - more so because unlike the cities there is a huge connectivity issue that impairs online classes. The school has recently started a new method called "cluster teaching" where a teacher goes to a village and teaches a group of students at a time - each cluster is divided by grade into 3 groups . 2 groups are taught using E resources on laptops while the teacher interacts with the 3rd group.
They need 12-15 laptops in total (the current ones are old and don't work without a constant power supply).
I am raising funds to supply these laptops to the school in February when they reopen from winter break. I have found a vendor that can supply refurbished and good laptops with a new battery at about Rs 10K . The total outlay is Rs 120K - 150K, I am contributing Rs 20K personally and seeking to raise another Rs 100-125K through this platform (and I will under write any shortfall ). These laptops will be delivered by me personally.
