Mithu lives in this village with his wife, daughter and mother and is the sole bread earner of their family. His village was one of the first to be hit by the Supercyclone Amphan uprooting his house which is on the embankment. As you can see in the picture the floor of the house has been completely washed away and now the house stands on temporary repairs. Mithu works at a small grocery store which has been shut due to the Covid Lockdown and right now he has no means of earning a livelihood. he is doing odd jobs to put food on the table for his family but they continue to live in this broken down house somehow.
Recently I did a story covering how mangroves are our natural barriers against cyclones for United Nations and Mithu despite his present state was very generous in sending me videos of the area and even a selfie report of the present conditions of those living in the sunderbans. It was only after we persisted him that he told us about his present state and we really want to help him rebuild his house.
we are trying to raise 50,000 rupees for him to kickstart rebuilding his house and then rest of the money he said he can arrange through local loans and work.
Please donate whatever amount is possible and we will keep you updated on the collections.
