They say that when the going gets tough, the tough get going. Popular Assamese monthly Bismoi, for the last 51 years, has been an example of this. So many headwinds came our way in these five decades, but we were able to navigate the choppy waters and sail through. Until now.
We have a lean team of very dedicated people, some of whom have been with us for decades now. Together we made this magazine an Assamese cultural icon and a symbol of Assam’s rich literary heritage, which even entered the Limca Book of Records as the highest circulating Assamese monthly magazine in eastern India. It was the fire in our belly that kept us going. It had also become a cause, a responsibility – Bismoi wasn’t just a magazine, it was a sentiment, an emotion. A flagbearer of Assamese cultural awakening.

The global coronavirus pandemic and the accompanying lockdown have impacted small and large businesses, and national and international publications. We are no exception this time. The media industry as a whole is shot up, but we are far more acutely hit as our pockets aren’t deep. Mounting debt has also affected our ability to graduate to newer forms of storytelling in the digital space.
Now, we are at a crossroads where the options are down to two – either fold up, like many others have, or seek public funding. We think the latter course is more acceptable to us, and we are sure, to our readers too. We will give this one more shot so that our colleagues can still put the magazine on the table along with a full meal for their families.

So, we come in front of you in all humility to ask for your financial support. Please donate to save many futures and this longest-running Assamese monthly with whatever amount you are comfortable with. In a democracy, people are God. So, it is to this God that we submit. Please help us continue with this journey so that Bismoi and Priyo Sakhi (which has a glorious history of over 20 years) can continue to further the cause of Assamese literature and culture. Your kindness will not be forgotten.
We shall use the fund as under-A major portion of the fund raised will be utilized for repayment of the long continuing debts accumulated in the last 50 years, which is now converted to Loan Against Property (Total debt being Rs. 95 lakh approx). Repayment of debts will help in gradual growth of the publication house.
Also the fund raised will be utilized in monthly publication of the journals ‘Bismoi’ and ‘Priyo Sakhi’ and bringing out the digital format of these journals, and meeting the administrative expenditure such as wages, salaries and other working capital requirements.
