    Baby Of Shabana

    from Marathahalli

“I see the new mothers in the hospital take their babies home and I keep asking the doctors when I can take my baby home. Everyday before I enter the NICU, I say a little prayer, worried that I will find my baby in a worse condition than before. I can do nothing but look on helplessly as my baby shakes violently due to seizures. My little child froths at the mouth and just the look of it scares me to death. I wish I could just close my eyes and wake up to a new morning when all this would just be a nightmare,” - Shabana, mother.

The young parents had hoped that Shabana's pregnancy would bring them joy but destiny had other plans

Shabana (22) and Farooque’s joy knew no bounds when they got to know that she is pregnant. Life took a different turn for them and all they could think of was welcoming their baby. Little did the young parents realise that their happiness would be so short-lived.
“We were never rich but we were happy with what we had. The only thing that was missing was the giggles of a little baby. So when I got the news of my pregnancy, my husband and I knew that we would do everything to give our baby with the best life. But it’s been over 10 days that my baby is born and the doctors are still saying that the baby is in a critical state. Even the simple act of breathing tires my little angel.  I am so afraid but there is no way that I can afford to lose my baby.”

Shabana was shattered when she got to know that her baby's vital organs are failing one by one

Shabana’s baby is battling several congenital complications that are proving to be life-threatening in nature. The baby’s body, especially the brain, is deprived of oxygen and as a result, it is causing a lot of damage to the tissues and the organs of the newborn. The baby also has a condition known as hydrocephalus  - a condition that occurs when fluid builds up in the skull and causes the brain to swell. It can cause brain damage, a loss of mental and physical abilities, and even death. The little one has frequent seizures and needs to stay on the ventilator since the baby's nervous system and other organs are not functioning properly. The doctors have also told Shabana that her baby is struggling to breathe due to a hole in the heart. With a damaged brain and a failing heart, the only thing that can save Shabana's baby is continued NICU care.

The helpless young parents are struggling very hard to save their little one

Farooque is a coconut-seller who earns very little every month. His meagre income is inadequate to support his family but he has been managing somehow till now. But after their baby was born with so many complications, he has spent a fortune in just a matter of 10 days. While Shabana spends her days in the hospital with their baby, Farooque works day and night in the hope that they will be able to continue their baby's treatment, but in vain. The baby needs to stay in the NICU care for another 10 days to get better and lead a healthy life. The stay in the NICU would cost the family around 7 lakhs and they're in no condition to pay at all.
“I have never felt so helpless before. I can see my baby suffering in front of my eyes and there is absolutely nothing that I can do. My husband calls me every few hours to ask about our baby, and sometimes I can't say or do anything but cry. We have already spent so much by borrowing from friends and relatives, I don’t know from where we can arrange for more so that my baby can stay in the hospital and get better.”

How you can help

Shabana and Farooque’s 10-day-old baby is fighting against multiple medical complications and the only hope for the baby is a prolonged stay in the NICU. All the young couple dreamt of is a happy family, but now all their hopes and dreams are shattered. The parents are very poor and are in no condition to arrange for the money that is required for the baby’s stay. Your generous contribution would help these young parents get their little one back.
