    Baby Ashritha

    from Hyderabad

"It was a fateful evening. First we thought it was just a fever and within hours , she ended up on ECMO and is now battling for her life."

Father Rajkumar is finding it difficult to control his emotions while he is talking about his daughter's present condition. She was very normal and was talking and playing like any other child and within days she ended up on ECMO machine fighting for her life.

Ashritha had fever a few days back and her parents took her to a local facility to get it checked. Initially they thought it was Chikungunya or something and did few blood tests and all. In the results of blood test, Doctors found out that she had infection in her blood and Rajkumar was running around different hospitals for the treatment. 3 days after this fateful day, her oxygen levels in the body went down. Finally they came to Rainbow Children's Hospital in Hyderabad and she had to be taken on the ECMO machine.

Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), also known as extracorporeal life support (ECLS), is an extracorporeal technique of providing prolonged cardiac and respiratory support to persons whose heart and lungs are unable to provide an adequate amount of gas exchange or perfusion to sustain life.

While she was admitted, she was diagnosed to be suffering from Pneumonia/Right sided effusion/severe ARDS/Refractory Hypoxemia/Sepsis/Septic Shock.

She was started on 1V fluids , 1V anti-biotics, mechanical ventilation, ionotropes and other supportive management. She was not maintaining saturation despite maximum ventilator settings. In view of refractory hyoxemia, she was started on ECMO.

The total estimated cost for her entire treatment is coming around Rs. 22 lacs.

"I am working in a private firm and I do not have insurance as well. I am in no position to arrange such a huge amount in such short notice.  I kindly appeal to all the kind supporters to come forward and help my child"
