Ashima Adikari Mondal loves being busy – she is always working, either taking care of her employers, her family and her children. After her father died at a young age, she worked as a housemaid to help her mother and 3 sisters. After marriage, she took up the responsibility of helping her in-laws along with raising three children (one girl, two boys), working as cook and housemaid. When her husband abandoned her three years back, she stayed strong for her children. She made sure her children graduate from school and attend college. She did not get a chance to attend school but was determined to give the opportunity to her children! So, in spite of all financial constraints, she made sure her children go to school with her sole meager income.

Her world came crushing down on Feb 2, 2020 night, when, out of the blue, Ashima had a seizure with bleeding.  She was rushed to hospital and found to suffer from Glioma in left temporal lobe. She had been suffering from headache for a long time but did not have the means to visit doctor with her monthly income of INR 8,000 ($100 USD approx.). Immediate surgery has been prescribed for her. The initial estimate for surgery is INR Five Lakhs (approximately $7,000 USD). The every-busy Ashima is almost immobile, writhing in pain! Her children immediately left their studies to help in their mother's medical cost. With no savings and health insurance, Ashima's surgery seems far-fetched at this point. Her daughter left college to work in sales, her younger son left school to work as rickshaw driver. Her older son Subhankar Mondal (22 years) had leave his college and working part-time as a plumber to make ends meet and provide medical treatment for their mother!
