Story

Parents of a 26-month-old baby are seeking funds to facilitate the toddler undergo a life-changing surgery.

Gurunatha and Laxmi, residents of Hubli in Dharwad district, became parents for the first time in January, 2020.

For the first 11 months, Aryan, their baby boy, showed no sign of abnormality. However, it has been a difficult journey since then.

"We started noticing swelling in the head when Aryan was about 11 months old," Gurunatha says. "We thought it was due to us holding him in the wrong way. It happens with a lot of kids, if you hold the head a certain way, the shape changes."

In reality, Aryan Jadhava suffers from Craniosynostosis, a birth defect in which the bones in a baby's skull join together too early.

According to experts, this happens before the baby's brain is fully formed.

"As you can see, my child is not normal like other kids," Laxmi says while cradling Aryan one her lap. "He cannot walk, talk or sit and keeps on crying."

Taking a pause, the mother says, "I feel pain whenever I see other kids my boy's age. Why is he like this? I want to cure him at all costs. We need your help for his operation."

The life changing procedure consists of craniotomy, cranioplasty and foramen magnum decompression (FMD).

Gurunatha, a welder by profession, earns around Rs 8,000 (USD 105) a month. He has already spent Rs 3,00,000 (USD 3,934) trying to cure his ailing son.

"I would urge people to help me financially, so my son can get this life changing surgery and live like a normal person," he concluded.
