I am writing this on behalf of my friend.
My father is the sole breadwinner for our family of 3 people. He was a school teacher before covid made him bed-ridden for the last 2.5 months. After suffering from fever and intense coughing for a few days, he was detected positive for covid on May 12. Being diabetic, the situation worsened quickly and he had to be hospitalized immediately after two days. He spent 15 days in the ICU struggling for every breath. The situation was so serious that on one occasion his oxygen saturation dipped to a drastic low of 44%. After being discharged, he has been struggling with post-covid complications. His kidneys, urinary bladder, and other organs are severely affected. His blood profile has to be very carefully monitor otherwise buildup of toxins can lead to multiple organ failures. This means multiple doctor visits, tests, and endless medications.
The ICU hospitalization and ongoing treatment, tests, and medications are all very expensive. All my family's savings are already depleted. There has been no source of income for the household for the past 2.5 months and my father is in no condition to work. The treatment has to continue for many months to come and my family is under extreme financial stress. Friends have helped so far and without them, I cannot imagine what would have happened.
