    Arjun Mirkar

    from Detroit, Michigan

My name is Mayur and I am here to fundraise for my son Arjun Mirkar.

My family comprises of my wife, Akshaya, and children. Our love, Akshaya's and mine, was materialized into holy matrimony in May 2014. We both were looking forward to having a child and complete our family and despite the medical complications, Akshaya succeeded to conceive after three years in September 2017. The doctor informed us that the pregnancy is complicated and Akshaya underwent surgery to increase survival chances of her and her relatively healthier twins. We were very happy to know that our family will be blessed with two babies.

After a month, the doctor noticed further medical complications with the twins. And after due thoughts and discussion with the doctors, Akshaya chose to risk her life in order to bring the twins to this world. It was a decision that only a mother can understand. Siya and Arjun were born on the 4th of March. 2018 but since they were 6.5 months old prematurely delivered, they were immediately shifted to NICU for 3 months. A day in NICU was at cost INR 45000/- for the twins. We both would visit twice every day just to peep through the looking window. The simple glance of the twins would provide us with enough strength to go through the day. Siya and Arjun both had many challenges like extreme low birth weight, retinopathy of Prematurity, Blood Infection, Sugar, etc and also underwent major surgery of Hernia.

Siya was discharged from Surya Hospital on 9th July 2018 with a hospital bill of INR 2,305,790/- excluding medicines and miscellaneous expenses. Arjun had to undergo two major procedures for Acute Bronchiolitis and was finally discharged on 25th July 2018 with a total hospital bill of INR 2,080,842/-. We were relieved and feeling extremely grateful for being able to manage the struggle that was draining financially, emotionally and physically. When we held Siya and Arjun in our arms for the first time at home, we felt really confident and blessed. Little did we know that God was not done testing us.

1st week of September, Arjun was diagnosed with compromised sight due to ROP stage 04B in the left eye so the doctor in Mumbai informed us to visit for Sankara Nethralaya hospital in Chennai.  On 14th Sep. 2018, Arjun underwent a successful surgery of "Lens Sparing Antivegf" for on left eye. However, after a week during a follow-up visit in Mumbai, we came to know that the right eye has been affected too and need immediate action. Thus, Arjun underwent same surgery on the right eye in Sankara Hospital, Chennai on 5th of Oct. however, the doctors had to abandon the surgery due to excess bleeding. We were informed that his right eye will have no vision. It felt like earth moved from under our feet. Since then until March 2019 we visited Chennai at least 8-10 times and have been on continuous follow up with the doctor in Mumbai as well hoping that our son has a sight in at least his left eye and be able to see the world with all its beauty but the doctors refused for any procedure to be performed.

Fortunately, we came to know about Dr Michael Trese in Michigan, USA from parents of another child who underwent two unsuccessful surgeries and lost his vision of both the eyes with ROP stage 05 in Chennai, but was accepted by Dr Trese for some advanced procedure and assured the boy will have vision to be independent. Total cost only for one eye treatment in the US is USD16800. TOTAL  COST WILL BE USD34000 approximately which is about 24 lakhs Rupees. And , this is just for the surgery, the travel expenses, accommodation, hospital stay, etc will be added to these expenses. I will be sharing all the updates possible on the utilization of funds from my end.

Our son, Arjun, who is not even one year old yet, has undergone anesthesia and surgeries and been poked by syringes more time than an average adult gets in an entire lifetime. After going through so much, this boy at the least deserves to see the world independently. We are determined.

We have already sold everything we own to save our babies life and we are determined to do whatever it takes do continue supporting them, but we can’t do it alone and seek the support from you. Please help us for donation to give sight my baby boy’s at least 01 eye vision. Please support us and share the campaign with your friends and family.
