I am Sangeeta Zombade and I am running this campaign to raise funds for my students.
Money cannot become a reason for not continuing education. Every child matters!
Khoj Community School an Initiative of Apni Shala Foundation.
It is a school in Lallubhai Compound, Mankhurd, Mumbai. Its a rehabilitated community under Slum Rehabilitation Act. This community has been rehabilitated 13 years ago Its a resettlement of Slums of Mumbai. When people were moved from various parts of Mumbai, there were no facilities provided to them, no medical facility, roads were badly built, residences were filling water from the nearby area and were to climb 7 floors without the lift. So much cost got added to daily wage earners pocket like electricity bills, monthly maintenance, daily traveling cost to work I can keeping on writing the list of challenges have gone through and it continues. So many parents had removed their children from the school because suddenly it became a big shift where their children had to learn how to travel by train by themselves. I always wondered just because people lived in the slums don’t they have the right to basic needs? Don’t they have a voice to demand facilities?
When we did survey 3 years ago the only demand residence had was a good quality education for their children. In response to people’s need Khoj Community School, an initiative of the Apni Shala Foundation started in 2017 with 26 children and families, now we are serving 78 children in this community. In this process, we learned people cannot afford to school and we do not want to make money as a reason for any child to drop out of education. It doesn’t matter which background you come from each child has a right to good quality education.
Khoj Community School focuses on building social and emotional competencies in children from an early age. We aim for high quality contextually relevant education to children from the Mankhurd community.
We are trying to do our bit by contributing to the societies’ ecosystem, do you want to join hands to make this contribution a big success?
