My name is Nilanjana Das and I am here to raise funds for my cousin Anuraag Khaund’s medical treatment. Anuraag is 24 years old and hails from Guwahati. He is an avid lover of history and an MA International Relations student at Central University of Gujarat. He is loved by his friends and family for his larger-than-life persona, his incredible sense of humor, and his ability to strike deep, meaningful conversations with friends and strangers alike. Needless to say, he is a brilliant student and the family has high hopes for him.
Unfortunately, Anuraag was diagnosed with Leukemia in March ’21. Although he has had the illness for some time now, symptoms appeared very late. It was only when he began to suffer from fever, cough and periodic vomiting that tests were conducted. It turns out that Anuraag has got a serious form of leukemia referred to as Lymphoid Crisis of Chronic Myeloid Leukemia (CML). He has a worrisome blood picture, wherein his white and red blood count as well as platelets and other key parameters are deep in the ‘red’ — well out of ‘normal’ range.
He’s being treated at the Rajiv Gandhi Cancer Institute and Research Centre in Rohini, Delhi. His parents are in deep distress, both because of Anuraag's deteriorating condition and on account of the exorbitant hospital fee and cost of treatment. So we are working with his family on a fundraiser in the hope and faith that we can all come together and do our very best in order to relieve their stress and pain.
At this point the overall cost of treatment is unknown. Until now, the family has spent about Rs. 2,50,000 out of their savings for his chemotherapy. Further treatment may cost anywhere between INR 15-65 Lacs, depending on whether a bone marrow transplant will be necessary or not, subsequent to the chemotherapy being administered at the moment.
Anuraag has received two of the six doses of chemotherapy so far. Hopefully it will have a prompt and positive effect. Let us try to raise a significant part of the necessary sum and help bring Anuraag back to good health, so we can enjoy his old jokes again!
