As you are aware, the migrants from across the country are trying to move to their hometowns. It is an extremely distressing situation and requires empathy from people who can support them in any possible way. A group of like-minded individuals & organisations (including Former PM’s Rural Development Fellows, Aspirational District Fellows, Chevening Alumnus, Development sector professionals, NGOs, corporates and others) have decided to coordinate the efforts on ground, with administration and civil society to provide for possible assistance to these distressed migrant workers.
The possible support would be (not exhaustive)-
- Filling up the e-pass forms for migrant workers
- Arranging transport such as buses with the help of administration/NGOs
- Providing for food, water and shelter wherever possible to people on roads/in transit
- Providing necessary information and support to administration for process/service delivery improvement
- Providing any health-related counselling if someone gets sick
- Leveraging existing efforts: Many organizations are working on ground or running helplines. Some of these organizations are operating in specific geographies or for specific support (like ration support, mental health etc.). We aim to collaborate with them to create a backchannel to gather data on distress calls related to migrant movement that these organizations cannot support. The people in need would be then reached out by the call centre to provide the support listed above.
- Establishing a new helpline- A new helpline would be started with calling number/WhatsApp/email support to enable people reach us directly as well. These would be popularized using existing channels. Some NGOs/groups can also provide it to the migrant workers looking for travel support
Please fill the form to help us serve these people in dire need best to our abilities-
