Hello everybody,
This is Sanjana Narendra, I’m a student and I’ve been rescuing dogs for 4 and a half years. Initially, I started going around feeding 30-40 dogs near my house on daily basis. Due to the lock-down, the dogs that I used to feed would come in search of me for food. That’s when I realized there were a lot more dogs suffering from the basic need for survival.
We, humans, got all the help we needed but not a lot of people came forward to help these voiceless souls. I started feeding each and every dog in my area and the areas of feeding increased day by day. I used to feed about 400-500 dogs with 12 to 15 big buckets of food, every single day. It was just me and my younger sister (15 years). I fed them each and every day till the lock down resumed. During my feeding sessions, I used to find a lot of abandoned dogs, dogs that were run over, dogs being beaten up brutally. I used to go around rescuing all these guys and take them to the vet and get them treated and each vet visit doesn’t cost me below ₹2000 and till today I’ve rescued more than 50+ dogs and most of them are either adopted or they are released back into their territories. We have also decided to start a vaccination and a sterilisation drive to reduce the risk of getting run over and die due to a lot of diseases eg. CD, parvo and tick fever.
Rescuing and feeding dogs isn’t an easy task at all. At times, I wanted to step back, as every time we went to feed or rescue dogs, some people would at times trouble us, because they think, by us feeding the dogs their population will increase and it’ll start troubling people more. I don’t gain anything financially from what I do. I never gave up because I realized that rescuing dogs was like rescuing myself and every time I saw these babies wagging their tails with full bellies, it is all worth it. The amount of satisfaction and happiness can only be felt by a true rescuer. The little fund that you contribute would help me save a lot of lives.
