TouchVision SmartStand is an innovative product designed with constant feedback from the blind community.TouchVision is an IIT Delhi supported inclusive design and technology enterprise aiming at social inclusion for one billion persons with disabilities globally. The enterprise has been honored with National Award for Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities 2019 by the President of India for development of affordable assistive technologies.
The motivation for developing SmartStand is to enable persons with blindness to access printed text independently in real-time while studying or performing their professional duties. The expensive and bulky scanners with camera and speakers are not affordable and accessible for everyone and thus people with blindness have to wait for a long time and spend a lot of money for a single accessible copy.As a result, children with blindness do not get the same opportunity from the beginning in school, whether it is a special school or an inclusive school. The same situation prevails further in college and in jobs as well, due to which persons with blindness have to rely on assistance for their education, preparation for the entrance exams and in the job.Persons with blindness ranging from a 10 year old school student to an IAS officer are using SmartStand to access notices, books or any long document to study and work in an independent and dignified manner.
This fundraiser aims to support 120 children with blindness across Bihar,India by distributing SmartStand and conducting training and orientation programs for children, their teachers and parents to enable them to access printed books using technology. Our team would verify every individual disability certificate and income certificate & serve to the most vulnerable children across Bihar.
