My Dear Friends,
I am Amrapali Shindhe, a 25-year-old singer-songwriter, performer and curator from Bengaluru. I've been pursuing this passion for over 15 years and pursuing it professionally for the last 10 years. Due to unforeseen circumstances, I couldn't finish my undergraduate, but that hasn't stopped me from doing what I tremendously love. Since I dropped out of college at the age of 18, I've been working really hard in the industry making my name in whatever way possible. Be it singing for shows, being part of reality shows like "The voice" India, Creating my own music or singing for Television commercials.
What the last 10 years have bought me is industry level experience, a very talented set of creative network and unthinkable support from my fans and wellwishers.
The last two years have been probably the hardest in my career due to covid, my main source of income which is Live shows have completely stopped. But that didn't stop me, I started taking online music lessons for kids and adults. It helped me in small ways to pay my bills and cover my monthly expenditure.
This year an opportunity came my way to pursue/complete my education. Where I was offered a master degree in two most prestigious colleges in the UK, The Liverpool University - MA in Music Industry Studies and Goldsmiths University - MA Creative and Cultural Entrepreneurship in Music.
I decided to finish my education only because I realized the next two years our creative industry will not be the same, the shows, the festivals or even small recordings would have either completely stopped or decreased. I believed it was a great time for me to level up in my career and look beyond which is why I chose these courses and also will give me time to learn the insides of the industry.
I initially thought I had to do my undergraduate degree for three years and had planned to go for it next year maybe after saving a little money since education abroad is really expensive. But to my surprise, both the universities decided to offer me a masters program instead due to the experience I have created for myself in the industry for the last 10 years.
This is really important for me to acknowledge that whatever I've done over the last 10 years hasn't gone to waste.
I've a decision to make now and choose between these two colleges. Both of them are great at what they offer but I have to think of my financial set backs before making these decision. I reached out to banks for loans but even banks do no offer 100% loan for colleges especially since I'm also a freelancer.
My father and husband havebeen very supportive with this decision and are helping me with whatever they could which I am for ever grateful. But it would still not be enough to cover my expenses.
Since this was last minute decision to study abroad I missed out on lots of scholarship opportunities and cant even consider that as an option.
Having said all this I call out on all of you to support me and my dreams by making a small contribution with whatever you could. Trust me the smallest contribution also matter to me. And if you feel you have people who could help me please pass it on.
