I am Akhil Jamkhandhi from Hubli , Karnataka, a freelance movement artist based in Bangalore.I have been working in the capacity of a performer, facilitator and choreopgrapher for 3 years now. Prior to that I gained my initial education in dance from Attakkalari centre for movement arts, a 2 year diploma in movement arts and mixed media.
*My journey with dance*
The day I left my Diploma in civil engineering is vividly etched into my mind. My parents were furious. But still, I left home and moved to Bangalore to pursue my training in dance.
My years at Attakalari only affirmed my decision to pursue my quest for the art form, and with time my parents have came around to the idea of a son who is a professional dancer.Mostly.
Last year I had secured admission in a dance school named Performact in Portugal but due the pandemic and the economic effect it had on my family, I had to let it go.
This year again, I have been fortunate enough to be admitted in a Dance school in Sweden,Härnösands folkhögskola for their professional programme " New education for contemporary dance ". Coming from a humble background such as mine ,it has always been a distant dream for me to pursue my education Internationally. It will help me in my professional devolopement leaps and bounds. And for this to happen I would need every helping hand possible. Fully aware of the times we are all living in ,even the smallest of your contribution will take a me closer to my pursuit.
I consider myself extremely fortunate for been able to have the luxury of pursuing what I love to do on a daily bassis and even more so to make a living out of it . Has it been easy ? Certainly not. And thats exactly what I want to contribute to ,when I establish myself. I want to make this slightly easier for people like and unlike me to pursue dance as a profession. To pursue and sustain in this pursuit without any form resistance.
This is fundraiser in appeal for your support to aid my dance education abroad. I aspire to better my craft ,but unfortunately Iam not financially self sufficient at this given point of time. I would be immensely grateful for any help you can provide.
