DHENUM ASHRYA SADNAM gau-sadan is an effort by AJAY SEHGAL ,Settler of trust to build an all weather sustainable cow shelter in Kangra region of Himachal Pradesh state.
We are a group of like minded who are dedicated in saving innocent cattle who are dying because there is no one to feed them in many rural villages of Himachal Pradesh. Every time we locate villages where the cows are starving or underfed due to famine or other harsh conditions.
Every year hundreds of cows, bulls & calfs are left alone by their owners. due to which these destitute cows, bulls and calfs go through various problems like road accidents, injuries, starvation , other health hazards like bacterial infections, fungal infections and these destitute cows also becomes host for many leeches and other type of parasitic worms, which are the major cause of different types of diseases which cause epidemic near civilisations which may also be dangerous for human habitations.
According to the 2012 livestock census, state had 32,160 stray cattle on roads while 9,119 cattle were housed in the gau-shalas. According to the 2017 livestock census (still ongoing), state has 27,352 on roads while 13,337 are housed in the gau-shalas. While 2012 livestock census pegged the total number of cattle in the state at 21 lakh, the current census estimates it at 18 lakh.becoming one of the major reasons for road accidents across state.
COW’s, the only animal which are treated as mother, thought to be sacred and deeply respected by everyone in our country. But when these MAA (COWS) cease to produce milk are abandoned by their owners (or used family members when MAA produced milk). Despite providing for their livelihood of their owners for the most part of their lives, these COWS are left to be starve and die during their dry period or left as stray animal which either dies in road accidents or become mentally ill and tries to hurt people.
Today this revered animal suffers unimaginably at the hands of humans who exploit it incessantly. Cows are butchered mercilessly for their skin, meat and bones. Despite cow slaughter being illegal in most parts of the country, they are being killed mercilessly and brutally - legs chopped off, nails hammered into their skull, necks slowly cut, forcing them to die slow painful deaths. some stray cows are in so much worse conditions that they are infected with flesh eating maggots, some can’t even walk.
