I'm an Agriculture graduate from University of Agricultural sciences, Bengaluru. I'm currently working as a project manager in agrobased company, my job includes everything that a farmer does starting from sowing till the final harvest of the crop, the only difference is instead of working in my own farm, I'm working on my Companies farm and there are a lot of advantages to it.
Unlike a normal farmer I don't have to wait till the crop is ready, I don't have to worry about the variations of prices of the crops in the market or any other problems faced by a normal farmer. Indian farmers face a lot of challenges and most farmers end up facing severe losses by the end of their crop cycle. In my own home town I came across a lot of farmers who have lost their entire crop especially the flower growers due to the pandemic and trapped in debts. One of the main reasons for this is lack of knowledge about good farming practices among the farmers. Most Indian farmers still practice old outdated farming techniques, they lack information about agro practices like intercropping, crop rotation, choosing the right crops to grow based on their topography also there a lot of Central and State Sponsored schemes to help protect the farmers the farmers from facing losses, there are govt schemes that organize free training camps to improve the knowlege and skills of the farmers. Unfortunately there is no proper platform to help disperse all these information to all the farmers, despite the contentious efforts by the agriculture extention department, most farmers still do not get access to the latest updates in the field of agriculture.
Agrowiki is a small team of agriculture graduates trying to help out the farming community of India by creating a channel that focuses exclusively on providing information to farmers in their respective regional languages. We aim to create a platform through which we can provide information like expected price variations of the crops, updates about mandi prices, weather predictions, optimum farming practices, farming techniques, Govt schemes and latest updates on high yielding varieties and much more. We aim to provide all these in the local languages.
Although our final goal is to create a Television channel, right now we are working on creating a website and an app.
We have already purchased a domain under the name "www.agrowikipedia.in"and it will be online in next 30 to 45 days, we are also going to launch the app, probably under the name "Agrowiki" or "Wikikrishi" in the next 6 months. We are also working on launching a youtube channel by the end of 2021.
Right now we are trying to raise funds to hire a professional Web and App developer, we are only planning to launch Android app since most farmers use only android devices.
We have estimated that web development, SEO and App might cost us around Rs.2 lakh and we are trying to raise at least 50 percent of the total costs.
