    Adivasi Communities

from Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand & Gujarat

With the second wave of Covid 19 surging very fast into remote rural and tribal areas in India, we are confronted with appeals for urgent medical help and outreach from Adivasi communities. Tribal India faces a serious crisis as migrant workers are returning to villages, and medical or infrastructure facilities are highly ill-equipped to cope with the large numbers of people falling sick and rushing to the primary health centres. The overcrowding in these hospitals carries a great risk of community transmission whereas medical facilities are poor and medical teams are overstretched. As today’s Adivasi communities suffer from severe malnutrition, silicosis, tuberculosis, poverty and landlessness, the vulnerability to infectious diseases is very high especially among the Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs).

Dhaatri Trust, Hyderabad and field partners in Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand and Gujarat as a civil society network working with Adivasi communities in different states, along with field partners have initiated a Community Resilience Outreach in this Covid Emergency. We are supporting Adivasi communities to set up their own Community Covid Support Centres where village-level isolation and quarantine facilities, primary medical care, community precautionary measures and public awareness on Covid protocols and Vaccination are led by the local village councils and youth.

We appeal to all to help us quickly put up these centres. We are urgently in need of basic medical kits for each village that contain a set of vitamin supplements, sanitation material, testing kits and infographics in local Adivasi languages.

Dhaatri Trust is a not for profit registered NGO working with Adivasi women and children and having field partners in Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Chattisgarh, Maharashtra, Jharkhand and Madhya Pradesh. We work with tribal groups like Gonds, Bhils, Patelia, Khonds, Koyas, Oraon, Munda, Barela, Kurukh and other tribes.

All donations to Dhaatri Trust are eligible for exemption under the Income Tax Act of India.
