The schooling of Adivasi Children in Batabari Tea Garden, Jalpaiguri, West Bengal (735206), has been badly affected by the pandemic. The gap in formal education has widened further with inaccessibility to online classes due to the lack of smartphones and the internet. The children have been missing classes for more than a year now. Many have not even received books and writing materials.

Due to inaccessibility to any form of schooling, children have started working in Tea Gardens and have taken up other labor work.

Adivasi youths, of team PRAYATN, recognized these problems while aiding the community in crisis due to the lockdown that comes along with Covid. They surveyed and identified 16 Adivasi girls in their village who have not been able to attend classes.

In discussion with the youth, we concluded that study group (in a groups of 2-3) can be conducted regularly, this will not only help them stay in touch with their teachers and syllabus but also tackle any problems they might face while learning.

This will require us to purchase 7 smartphones, a wireless WiFi connection, SIMs for the aforementioned phones, and an initial recharge to kick-start the study group!

We are deeply concerned about the communities' growth and the increasing drop-out rates during the lockdown period. Kindly support the team in reaching their goal.
