Tibetan Nuns of Sherab Choeling Nunnery Morang Village

    from Solang, Himachal Pradesh

During this situation of the economic crisis in the recent wake of COVID-19, made this donation drive to buy Menstrual Cups for Tibetan Nuns of Sherab Choeling Nunnery, Morang Village, Spiti Valley, Himachal Pradesh. There are 60 nuns. It will be around 50 Menstrual Cups needed in total.
In the remote area, Spiti Valley of Himachal Pradesh in northern India, lies Sherab Choeling Nunnery. The nunnery is very secluded and located in the village of Morang at an altitude of 4,000 meters.
In 1959, after the Dalai Lama escaped the oppression in Tibet, thousands of Tibetans have been trying to flee from the same plight. Over 30 years back the repressive conditions forced hundreds of nuns or Bhikkhunis to flee from Tibet and run to India looking for safety, education and a place to lead their lives. They found shelter in many parts of our country. But  Ladakh, Zanskar and Spiti are those places in India where Tribes are still practicing Buddhism. These women are keen to learn, teach and practice their beliefs in harmony with other like-minded people. Sherab Choeling Nunnery was built in 1995 by 20 nuns and their teacher with the intent of addressing the problem of the inadequate education of women in the region. The nunnery was consecrated in 1995 by His Holiness the Dalai Lama who encouraged the nuns to study. Spiti has been one of the most welcoming places that houses over 200 Tibetan nuns today. They are looked after and cared for, but these nunneries aren't enough and need our help to alleviate the struggling women. Traditionally, women in this region have suffered from many social and educational disadvantages. Many have been deprived of any kind of formal education, and this institute is the first in Spiti to provide women with the opportunity to overcome these disadvantages. The nuns have difficult living conditions. They often face long and harsh winters and heavy snowfalls.
During winters, the region is cut off from neighboring villages so the nuns must stock up their daily supplies well before the onset of cold weather. For this, they need to work hard in summer. This Nunnery has its own farms and cows. From farming to milking the cows and all other works like cleaning the nunnery, cooking food etc., everything is done by the nuns themselves. The nunnery is totally managed by women. This is the beauty of it.

By donating to this Campaign, you can help provide a better life for these women. You can be the one who delivers them basic hygiene kits that include Menstrual Cups, Cramp-Relief Oils and so much more that they're in need of.
