We are reaching out requesting your contributions to help Abraham fight severe post COVID related complication which is Mucormycosis (Black Fungus). Abraham, 35 years old with no pre-disease, non-smoker needs urgent surgery and medical care to brain. He has a wife and two kids (5 yrs boy and 3 yrs girl).

Abraham was tested positive for Covid-19 on May 28th 2021. Within a week, Abraham’s condition deteriorated and his oxygen levels dropped drastically (<80) .So, he was admitted to a hospital in Guntur for immediate care. There, he received medication and was on oxygen to maintain saturation levels. On June 9th, he got discharged from hospital in Guntur as he tested -Ve for Covid-19.

After he came home, he started suffering with severe headache and left facial numbness. On 12th June, He consulted ENT specialist and admitted to a Kondaveedu hospital in Narasaraopet .After performing few tests there, He diagnosed with Mucormycosis(Blck Fungus) on 15th June. On 16th June ENT doctor tried to perform surgery to clean/remove fungus infected part , But, Abraham developed serious side effects with antifungal medication and immediately he shifted to Andhra hospitals in Vijayawada. There, doctor performed surgery and cleaned fungus infected areas in Sinusitis and started anti-fungal medications. He has spent 2 weeks in the hospital and, with will power, has overcome some major complications (fits, severe headache) over this period. His condition was stable on 29th June and the doctors found signs of recovery. So, they discharged him on same day.

After few weeks at home, from 30th July, He started getting severe pain above eyes and behind ears. So, he consulted same ENT doctor and she has advised to consult neurologist. After, he consulted neurologist in Vijayawada on 31st July. he performed two MRI's in the span of four days and conformed fungus reached his brain. Immediately, he referred him to NIMS Hyderabad (Govt Hospital). Then we tried to admit him in NIMS Hyderabad. But, they said they are not taking black fungus cases anymore. So, without any delay we consulted Neurosurgeon in Medicover hospitals in Hyderabad . Neurosurgeon suggested to admit him immediately in the hospital for the surgery and further medical treatment. So , we just admitted him in Medicover hospitals (Hitech City, Hyderabad).

By profession, Abraham is photographer in his hometown and he doesn’t have any medical insurance. The family has spent ~15 lakhs of their own savings and through support from extended family and friends. 

Following are the total expenses:

Hospital bills incurred so far - Rs. 3 lakhs
Diagnostic bills - Rs. 2 lakhs
ICU costs  - Rs. 2 lakhs
Surgery costs - 2 lakhs
Anti-Fungal Injections costs - Rs. 4 lakhs (60 injections, each one costs Rs.7500)
Pharmacy bills incurred so far - Rs. 2 lakhs

Future expenses:
Neurosurgery costs – Rs. 2 lakhs
Anti-Fungal Injections costs - Rs. 7.5 lakhs (as per doctor, minimum of 100 injections needed for 3 weeks , each one costs Rs.7500)
ICU costs after surgery-Rs. 2 lakhs
Hospital, ICU and Pharmacy bills  –Rs. 3.5 lakhs
