What if we have a Theatre Festival in our own village? everyone from every caste and community will participate! We will plan and we will lead this!
This is what was decided by the young leaders of villages of Purulia who perform theatre to bring social change in their villages.
From this thought, we started planning Kongshaboti Natya Porob, named after the river at the banks of which are located these two villages.
Though the village festival will be organised completely from the money which all the villagers are putting in for organising this festival in their villages, we also plan to take theatre groups from other small towns and cities to this village. The festival will also see performances of Chhau, Jhumur and many other folk forms of these villages.
On top of the funds which the people of the village will collect, we might fall short on the funds to arrange for travel, stay, food and an honorarium for these theatre and folk art groups for which we are giving a shout out to you!
We want to make this festival a tradition where young people lead and the festival becomes a ground where different theatre groups (of the villages, of the cities, of towns) to come and interact, where different groups perform and engage, challenge the hierarchies of being "big" and "small" groups, grow and learn from each other and the people of these villages are able to enjoy and appreciate this diversity.
With a lot of love, we have started the preparation for this celebration of theatre and social change in Dholdholi and Pakbedia villages!
If you can, we request you to kindly give a donation for the same so that this becomes a celebration of Theatre, togetherness, equality and solidarity!
This festival will also be a ray of hope and source of smiles and joy in these tough times we're all living in!
SUPPORT OUR YOUNG COMMUNITY LEADERS TO TRANSLATE THEIR IDEAS TO REALITY!
P.S. All Covid related precautions will be taken for the same.
Lots of Love
