Positive Update:

We are pleased to inform everyone that one funding agency from The Netherlands came forward to support this noble cause. They expressed their willingness to provide financial assistance to 50 Migrant Workers Children and credited amount to Social Action and Value Education Trust (SAVE) bank account.

Problem Statement:

In all schools around Guntur District, learning simply stopped. Without access to education, as shocks are experienced – including loss of life, health impacts and loss of livelihoods - children are more vulnerable and unprotected. As household finances are being strained and needs increase, out-of-school children are more likely to be exposed to risks like family violence, child labor, forced marriage, trafficking and exploitation, including by responders. Many of these talented young kids who should be in school getting an education are therefore forced to sit out, as there is no source of income for their parents.  For the most vulnerable children, education is lifesaving. Not only does it provide safety and protection, importantly, it also instills hope for a brighter future.

Need:

As the equalizing effects of schools and parents are mute, SAVE Trust wants to implement this project to reduce the parenting gap and accelerate the trend to increase the polarization and lower the fear in the society. Through this project we SAVE Trust takes up responsibility of 75 such children every year and provide them the opportunity to continue their education after regular schooling becomes possible again. The children are provided with School supplies (Including Note books & Stationary, drawing sheets, pencils, pens, plain papers, geometric box, school bags etc.), Uniforms, Shoes and Sanitation and Hygiene supplies (Reusable/washable face masks, Soaps for hand wash to the children).

These measures benefit particularly large for poor, needy, minority and migrant children, promotes educational equity and reduces the learning losses. Continual support to these children till they pass out of school will equip them to face the future with confidence.

Specific Objectives:

  • Risk Communication and Community Engagement
  • Improve Infection and Prevention Control (IPC) and to provide sanitation and hygiene supplies (Reusable/washable face masks, Soaps for hand wash)
  • Support access to continuous education.
Risk Communication And Community Engagement:

RCCE is a priority intervention in the COVID-19 response to inform decision making related to personal risk, to mitigate rumours and misinformation, to share information and advice between experts, communities and officials, and to effectively involve children and their parents in the response to control the outbreak. SAVE Trust has prioritized addressing misinformation and communal tensions to ensure communities continue to observe physical and social distancing, and that discrimination does not become further entrenched.

SAVE Trust approached frontline functionaries to increase knowledge on prevention and containment measures. These groups include health, sanitation and early childhood development teachers who help ensure that the support is reaching children and their parents right down to the village level.

A village-level public advocacy campaign is being developed to address prevailing stigma and discrimination, including supporting helplines to address negative attitudes, misinformation and violence against women and girls. An approach involving targeted messages presented through traditional platforms and tools will effectively engage communities to promote safe behaviours and and support to the most vulnerable. This may result in intensified community engagement.

Improve Infection and Prevention Control (IPC) and sanitation and hygiene (WASH) supplies:

SAVE Trust is prioritizing to improve Infection and Prevention Control measures as prescribed the government for affected migrant children and communities through provision of supplies and information to influence practicing safety measures. Here SAVE Trust provides assistance in the procurement of essential supplies such as Reusable/washable face masks, Soaps for hand wash to the children.

Support access to continuous education:

The COVID-19 emergency is having a huge impact on children’s access to education, both girls and boys. To provide a better learning environment for children, SAVE Trust is seeking financial support for supplying of educational materials, uniforms and shoes for 75 migrant children who are affected due to COVID-19 crisis.

SAVE Trust support the children through providing school supplies likely Note books & Stationary (Including drawing sheets, pencils, pens, plain papers, geometric box, school bags etc.) along with Uniforms and Pair of Shoe or Sandals.
