Communities in Madhubani ( Bihar) are struggling to cope following the second wave of the pandemic. 70% of households in Madhubani have earning members who are part of the migrant workforce. The return of these migrants, many of whom are in debt and had to give up their livelihoods following lockdowns across the country, has dwindled the meagre resources of these households.
Although cases of Covid-19 are increasing in Madhubani, the administration is yet to offer relief or quarantine facilities. The situation on the ground is grave. Under-resourced families, who are already reliant on public welfare schemes for their survival, have nowhere to turn.
Leher has been working in Madhubani for 7 years, across 36 villages in 3 blocks reaching a population of One Lakh. Our community members have identified 1590 vulnerable families (4500 adults and 6600 children approx.), of which 900 are in extreme conditions requiring urgent and immediate relief.
We seek to provide a relief kit costing Rs 1054 that will serve a family of 7 for a month.
Here's what our relief kit includes:
2. Mustard oil (1kg)
4. Soyabean (1kg)
5. Dal (2kg)
6. Salt (2kg)
The ingredients of the kit have been suggested by communities themselves. Additionally, we shall also be providing paracetamol, thermometers, oximeters and sanitary napkins to families in need.
We aim to provide support for three months.
Our communities have come a long way, they need us now and we can’t do it without you!
With your support, we can help these families survive this pandemic! Donate to our cause, spread #UmeedKiLeher to vulnerable families.
