    This fundraiser will benefit

    1000 farmers

    from Gondia, Maharashtra

After raising funds for IT-Literacy on underprivileged children in Gondia, I was talking to them and realised that most of their fathers are farmers with land holding of < 2 Acres. I also enquired about what is going on in the farms during summer season and most of them replied - "nothing!" majorly due to unavailability of irrigation. Interestingly, pre-monsoon Depth to Water Level in Gondia district is 0.55 to 12.60 m bgl .
Farmer's suicide in India specially in Vidarbha is not unheard of. After 35 years of first farmer suicide, Vidarbha remains a 'graveyard of farmers'. The rate of farmer suicide in India is increasing. Also more than 90% of people in Gondia district are dependent on agriculture or allied activities for their livelihood and contribute less than 10% to the GDP of our district.

When we started Jan Chetna Manch (an NGO to work on major social and economic issues in Gondia district of Maharashtra) , improving livelihoods of farmers in our district was on our topmost priority list. To take the first step in this direction we are starting a fundraiser to identify and train 1000 farmers of Gondia district in cash-generating activities like Goat farming, poultry, fisheries, dragon fruit farming, mushroom farming etc in an organic and sustainable way. All the courses and information will be provided at a very marginal cost by Krishi Network team. We will also hand hold them and help sell their products to various companies by helping them create FPOs so that they can finally earn what they truly deserve. Please help us in this noble cause!

Funds raised in this cause will be specifically used -
1. Identify the right beneficiaries
2. Understand their day to day problem through Krishi Network experts
3. Train them in cultivating cash crops based on their interest and land holding
4. Help them make micor FPOs
5. Tie them up with buyers of their produce so that they can repeat this whole cycle themselves in the next season.
