Mousumi is hailing from a remote village in Cuttack district in Odisha. Two years ago she passed her graduation from a nearby college and was quite directionless about what she will going to do next - whether to continue her study or to earn a better livelihood for her family and for herself. Above all, she had 3 major operations - including a Heart Surgery and had started as a single earner for her family at the age of 18.

Today, Mousumi is skilled in digital technology and supports big education leaders in her village and across the state! This transformation has made her the pride of her village and inspires little girls who grow up around her.

Mousumi's transformation was enabled by the Karuna Fellowship Program.

In the education scenario, when any teacher or cluster resource coordinator faces a challenge to plan the lesson of newly launched learning enhancement program to strengthen the knowledge base of students, now they reach out to women in the Karuna Fellowship Program. Karuna Fellows are equipped with the various academic and administrative skillsets over the course of two years with the idea of providing onsite solutions to the key contributors in the education system. The Karuna Fellows are young women in rural areas who need to support their family, their education, or their livelihood. They are identified by our organisation's (Kaivalya Education Foundation) ground operatives who visit them at their homes and help convince their families to let them participate in the economy. These women, who are highly empathetic by nature,  are also trained technically in technology, pedagogy, administration, and other education-related skills so that they may provide this instant, need-based support to our education leaders.

Their contribution greatly impacts the strength of the education system that they operate in as it eases a lot of everyday pains that education leaders go through. See how Karuna Fellowship helps people in the short video below.
