Talking about Menstruation is still considered a taboo even though approximately 40 crore girls and women menstruate every year. Among them less than 20 percent of women in rural areas and 52 percent in urban areas use sanitary napkins. Moreover, there are 60,000 cases of cervical cancer deaths reported every year, two-third of which is due to lack of proper menstrual hygiene and more than 71 percent used cloth as a substitute even after knowing its consequences ( ie. rashes, stains, irritation, problems in doing daily activities).
SUKHAD is a drive started by Deepali Gangil of HUMARI PEHCHAN to provide menstrual hygiene awareness and kits to the underprivileged girls and women. The kit consists of 24 packets of sanitary pads, 6 packets of soap, disposable paper envelope and other essential items. Up Till now SUKHAD has distributed almost 50,000 menstrual kits on World Menstruation Day.
