Nayana is a smart and cheerful, 14-year old girl.
A grade 9 student in one of the under-resourced schools in urban Bangalore, Nayana struggles to read the word ‘read’. She manages to put up a sad smile when asked to add 100 and 100. Do you find it worrisome?
Nayana’s school is one among millions of other under-resourced schools which serve the children from socially-disadvantaged group, but have been unable to translate education into expected learning outcomes.
What if such under served schools in low income neighborhood transformed into high performing centers of learning..!
What if every child, no matter from which background s/he comes from, could get the education they deserve..!
What if every teacher and administrator in these under resourced schools had access to the best and the most effective teaching practices..!
ONE big question: Can something be done to help these schools provide ‘quality’ education?
YES. Our NGO, MANTRA Social Services works with such schools to ensure this. We are running our School Transformation and Empowerment Project (STEP) in 7 schools in the city of Bangalore.
This Cycling Marathon, I’m riding to ensure that quality education reaches my students. I’m riding to ensure that these schools, which serve the greatest numbers of first generation learners in society, achieve their vision of taking education to the underprivileged.
