Story

Kalaivani Nagaraj also known as Lady Kash was born to Tamil parents of an average income household, in Singapore. Being from the minority community of Singapore, she always had to go the extra mile in order to stand a fair chance. In school, she excelled in Languages, Sports and Arts. Being the first female Tamil-English rap artiste, she started her journey when she was only 17, leaving the shores of familiarity and love. With no one to guide her, she learnt the art and music business by herself and excelled in the field. She was the youngest and first Tamil female rapper to have worked and toured with Academy Award winner A R Rahman. She went on to achieve many more mile stones through sheer perseverance, pure determination and a focused mind.

Not wanting other growing artistes to go through what she did to be where she is today, she created AKASHIK, a humble record label and a safe space, to help independent artistes navigate their careers, all with her own income and savings.

Being a trailblazer who has been in the industry for the last 14 years and who had marked her place in the Indian and International music industry, she was invited to participate as an international participant, in the South Indian version of an iconic reality show, to represent her country. Having enjoyed watching the show as a child and given that she would be able to help independent artistes further, she agreed to be a part of the show. She did it to benefit those who looked up to her and were following in her footsteps. Even though she hails from another land, she wanted to see Indian artistes grow, this is something that has captured the heart of my team and those who have worked with her. The love she has for her Motherland.

Unfortunately, participating in this show turned out to be her worst nightmare as it was the opposite of what they had promised and contractually signed upon. After multiple problems and issues of health negligence, harassments, contract breaches, COVID cover-up which took place over the course of approximately 45 days in a foreign land, she realized that this was the state of many individuals participating in reality shows, whether they were a celebrity or not. Wanting this kind of unjust and inhumane treatment by media companies to stop, she took on a legal battle against the company that initiated the said reality show. It was one against a TV giant. Having already been through hell during the duration of the show, dealing with the aftermath and the continued mental harassments from the TV channel, she is still affected severely. Even though her mental state has been very fragile, she is still relentlessly working hard to build a creative studio in Bangalore, for independent artistes.

The case has now come to a turn, where the TV channel is backing down from the mediation which they were initially ready for. But since this is a fight for the individuals who these TV channels would continue exploiting, we are going ahead with filing a commercial suit. Having already invested in building a studio and creating a safe house for independent artistes, her pockets are stretched.

We, as a team, didn't want finances to be the reason she wouldn't win this fight. We look up to and respect our leader deeply, hence we are fighting this cause for her. My team and I are setting up this fundraising campaign to aid her in winning the case and making a difference. The donations that you make will go towards court fees, lawyer fees and filing fees. More than that, you will help create a revolution. No independent self-made celebrity with no backing or financial luxury, has ever had the guts to fight against a big media company because of fear of shattering their careers, facing public backlash and losing opportunities. But we want this #RealityInjustice to end and for a revolution to be created, so that Indian media houses do not continue to under-estimate or exploit everyone and anything that comes in their way, for profits.

Help us help others! Help us make a difference. Winning this case would not only show TV companies that innocent individuals cannot be taken for a ride for their own commercial benefits, but also would alert them to be careful in repeating their mistakes again, preventing future victims from getting affected by their money minded tactics.

Be a part of the change that is overdue. We cannot do this without your support. Thank you.
