Story

Help Himalayan Tribal Children make a future through skill development in various parallel education platforms.

Life in the Himalayan Tribal regions is very tough. The harsh climate and hard-to-reach habitation makes living a cumbersome affair. The children there are deprived of skillful education from a very tender age with no other career options available other than agricultural opportunities, which leads them to never becoming a part of the mainstream development programs and the rich cultural heritage of the nation. The unemployment factor is very high and rising in the vast lands of the Himalayas. A huge population of the youth is unemployed and leading a miserable life. Children often drop out of schools to sustain their families by doing menial and unskilled jobs. These children remain cut off from the mainstream and are cursed to a life of poverty, depression and often becoming victims of alcohol and high drug abuse. Girls also fall into the traps of human trafficking rackets.
Hence, our mission.

In 2018, Samarpan made a beginning in the Kinnaur Valley Regions of Himachal Pradesh by establishing contacts with local government schools. Teachers working in association with Samarpan provide skill based training in Classical Dance forms of India to the children of these local schools, including children from the underprivileged sections of the society. In a short span of time these enthusiastic children were taught well enough to have the confidence to perform on stage with a hope to form a better future than they thought of before. Today there are more than 500 children being taught by Samarpan, which is committed to empower these kids by grooming and training them in Indian Classical Music and Indian Classical Dance forms. The children are trained to obtain a complete Degree Course (equivalent to MA), which would help them get jobs in private and government sectors as educators or become trained professionals in future.

ABOUT SAMARPAN (SSWS)
Samarpan is an outreach program to bring Himalayan tribal children into the mainstream.
Working since 2018 and formed under the aegis of National Institute of Indian Classical Dance (NIICD), Samarpan is a non-profit social welfare society established to impart training and knowledge of various skill development parallel education platforms to children growing up in the Tribal Regions of the Himalayas.
