Malnutrition and hunger are widely prevalent in India even in the 21st century.
One of the major causes of malnutrition economic inequality. Due to low social status of majority Indian population, diet often lacks both quality and quantity.
Women who suffer from malnutrition are less likely to have unhealthy babies. Despite India's 50% increase in GDP since 2013, more than one-third of the world's malnourished children live in India.
Compared to their better-fed peers, nutrition deficient individuals are more likely to have infectious diseases like pneumonia and tuberculosis, leading to higher mortality rate.
Prompting concern that Covid pandemic and numerous Omicron infected cases have already deteriorated the health and nutrition crisis among the poorest of the poor.
The Women & Child Development ministry have given the estimation that 17.76 lakhs are severely acute malnourished children and 15.46 lakhs are moderately acute malnourished children in our country.
Recently a survey under the Global Hunger Index 2021 indicates that of 116 countries, India is ranked 101, which is lower than its rank of 94 in year 2020, has brought to my notice that Hunger in India is a major problem.
Therefore I, Srishti Roy Chowdhury is volunteering for the campaign organized by 'Hamari Pahchan NGO' to feed everyone atleast a meal before they sleep.
