My friend, Srini (Srinivasan Muthukumar) started facing kidney problems from 2012. He was diagnosed with kidney failure in Feb 2016 and was given his first dialysis treatment (his kidneys currently function only at 7%). Subsequently he has been on dialysis, under the Tamilnadu 'Chief Minister's Comprehensive Health Insurance Scheme'. He attends 2-3 dialysis sessions every week. He was enrolled into the 'Common Waitlist' maintained by the 'Transplant Authority Government of Tamilnadu' and has been awaiting an organ donor for his kidney transplant.
On 30th May 2018, Srini got a call from his hospital saying that there is a donor and whether he can come immediately to the hospital with the surgery amount, as he is next on the wait-list. Owing to lack of funds, he had to pass this invaluable opportunity.
Srini's wife is the only breadwinner in his family of 3 (the couple have a loving young daughter) based in Thoothukkudi. Srini, because of his health condition and dialysis sessions, is not employed. The cost of the transplant surgery and the subsequent regular costs for medication, are not affordable by Srini's family.
Because Srini is at the top of the transplant waitlist, he could get another call anytime from the hospital. He needs to be ready with the money for this surgery. This surgery would not only save Srini’s life but would also be a positively life altering event for his entire family. The total surgery costs, hospital charges and medication expenses are estimated to be approximately 6 lakh rupees. It would be a tremendous help if you can contribute whatever you can, in making this transplant possible.
