Support Project Spero

Spero is a Latin word for 'Hope'. With your donations, my children can Hope for a Better Tomorrow.

Hello everyone,
My name is Rachita and I am a Teach for India Fellow (2017-19). I have been placed at Government School, Byatarayanapura in Bangalore. My main aim is to provide quality education to my class of 40 wonderful fifth-graders, all unique in their own way.
To help provide you with some context for my fundraiser, all my children come from neighbouring low-income communities, and as their parents are all daily wage labourers, most of them have had limited access or exposure to technology. With your help, I hope to bring about technological sensitivity in their lives, and provide them with access to education intermingled with technology and other helpful resources.

The funds collected from this fundraiser will be primarily used on buying the following resources:
  • A Projector for my Classroom
  • A Projector Screen
  • A Whiteboard
  • An Android tab used solely for interactive classroom learning.
  • Other Teaching Aids - which includes colourful flash cards.
  • Stationery - which includes writing materials for the kids, and aids me in helping make colourful charts and graphic organisers for my children.
  • Reading Aids, catered to individual reading levels, as my kids have differentiated reading abilities. I will be using a certain amount of funds to buy picture books, encyclopaedias and pocket dictionaries.

Any extra funds which I receive will be used for the following purposes:
  • Setting up a Scholarship Fund for my higher-achieving students, which will be directly put in their bank account after the 2 years of my Fellowship. This scholarship money can only be accessed by the children once they turn 18 years of age, and not their parents/guardians.
  • Helping paint or fix certain areas of my school, which is in need of refurbishment. This will once again depend on the amount of extra funds raised.
If anyone wishes to donate any grade-level appropriate books or other required resources for my classroom, please reach out to me on the following email address - rachita.s2017@teachforindia.org .
Please note that not all donations need to be monetary, they can also be in kind. All donors will be receiving timely updates on how the expenses are being used. If you wish to know the estimate of some of the resources quoted, please feel free to shoot me an email.

Being a part of Teach for India has taught me that 'One Day, All Children Will Attain An Excellent Education'. Just because they were not born with the same privileges as some of us, it does not necessarily mean that they cannot have a better future ahead. What you can help me do is simply pave the way for their better future.
Thank you so much for taking out your time to read through my Fundraiser, it certainly means a lot to me and my class of little fifth graders. What you can expect from me in return is complete transparency in the use of funds, and zero misuse.

Hope you help us make a difference in our children’s lives!
Ask for an update
5th August 2017
Hey everyone!
Thank you so much (again), for donating. Just a quick update: We were finally able to buy a projector and a projector screen for my classroom! The pictures will be sent to you in the upcoming week.
This email is to talk about the next major spending: a bookshelf, and grade level books.
Since our school is running short on furniture, I will be buying a bookshelf for my classroom, and to accompany that, a few books (which include encyclopaedias) will be bought as well. The main objective of this is to inculcate the love of reading in all the kids, as well as improve their proficiency in the English language.
In case you have any books you have no use for at home, and would like to donate them, please reach out to me on the following email address: rachita.s2017@teachforindia.org. Any contributions would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you!

Rachita
