"In 5 years, private schools gain 17 million students, government schools lose 13 million". I was shocked to see this and it kept me thinking why everyone wants their kid to be in a private school and what about the people who can't afford to pay the heavy fees of private schools. The students in government school are equally talented as the ones in private schools. The major thing that was lacking was the exposure. In private schools they have different activities in school where the kid gets hands on experience or he/she can afford different classes after school based on the interest.
VISION: To enable skills and personality of the kids from low income background that gives everyone equal opportunities and a chance to develop their inner potential to remove the barriers which results in the community ownership that will help them sustain in future.
We have started a project community centre called “SPARK”. Community Centre is a safe space for the kids free of cost for the students of Government school Kadugodi, class 6th & 7th. Teaching the students for a year I realised the kids lack the basic skills and the opportunity so they will be able to survive in the competitive world. The students were not exposed to art, craft, music and much more was even shocking.
Community Centre is a safe space for the kids from low income families to come have loads of fun, explore, experiment, experience different things without any fear. We drive lot of values through the sessions. It helps the child to learn and skill build.
We have different field experts coming in and different activities going on for the kids like Origami, Art and Craft, Warli painting, Clay modelling, Music, Stand-up comedy, dance, karaoke, games like chess, business, Instruments like Guitar, Piano, drums, flute. We have had intense sessions about what I like and dislike, what I like and dislike about my parents, we have made greetings to the parents with Thank you note, we have had sessions on various types of doctors, Session on e-commerce sites, Product designing, awareness on eco-friendly materials by making clay Ganesha, Presentation skills etc. Over the period the kids have realised their strength and they aspire to become dancers, artist, few more have developed arts and crafts, music as their hobby.
