    Monisha

    from Chennai, Tamil Nadu

"I remember her loud cries, my inability to console her and the very moment she stopped crying out in pain. My wife and I were holding her upright, her head in our hands for hours. Her condition started deteriorating quickly. She suddenly did not respond to the bright lights and the multiple blood draws. It has been 20 days now, she has still not regained her consciousness." - Palani breaks into tears as he narrates how his 4-year-old went from being healthy and active to unresponsive. Unable to hold back their pain and guilt,  the poor parents stand next to their precious daughter, waiting for her to wake up.

Always a chatterbox, Monisha, loves playing with her older brother. Watching them together were some of the happiest moments for the parents. But one day, the active 4-year-old suddenly fell sick. Her fever didn’t subside, and though her parents were worried, they didn’t realise that it was just the beginning of her suffering.

An old pic of Monisha

"To our horror, it was not just a fever - severe infections were damaging her internal organs"

Her parents did not understand what was happening to her. She was crying loudly and after a violent seizure, she lost her consciousness. They called out to her constantly, and for a moment they thought they lost. She was immediately taken to ICU and after a series of tests, the doctors said that she suffers from sepsis, the body's overwhelming and life-threatening response to infection. This can cause a cascade of changes that damage multiple organ systems, leading them to fail. Many of her organs have stopped functioning properly.

"She has been in the ICU for 20 days. She opened her eyes yesterday, but we don't even know if she recognized us. She can't move at all. I can't bear to see her lying in this condition. We spend all day in the hospital, we have hardly slept these days. We stand next to her hoping that she will call out to us. We don't have the strength to go back home without her."- Pushpa.

On a taxi driver's income, he cannot afford treatment but Monisha can bounce back to life with your help

Monisha's father Palani is a taxi driver and with his meager income, he's struggling to save his daughter. He has not been able to go for work since she was admitted to hospital. He managed all these days with the help of his relatives but it is not enough anymore. He needs 6 lakh to continue the treatment. Monisha needs ICU stay for at least 7-10 days. She is showing signs of recovery and she can get back to her old self with your support.

"When she opened her eyes, we found hope. The doctors have assured us that she will recover but I don't have anything left with me for her treatment."- Palani
