Help My Imagination Animate - Masters In Animation & VFX

I am holding an offer to do Masters In Animation & VFX from University Of Dundee, Scotland. I have taken a loan for my tuition fees, but need funds for my living expenses in Dundee. My course is going to commence from September, 2017.

Here's my Story

I am from a small town and hypocrisy was inserted in our mind at an early age. I needed a safe and reliable career. Who drew for a living? I took up Chartered accountancy under family and peer pressure.

Like every toddler, cartoons always fascinated me. Sketching them and filing them with colours was my favourite hobby since I was 5. I grew up but my love for drawing - sketching in particular didn't change.

I took up projects to remain in touch with this skill that has given me most satisfaction and recognition in life. I created a page in Facebook and Instagram named 'sketchmywish' and started posting my sketches.

I got my first order then the next. I even started receiving orders through social networking websites. I created over 60 commissioned pieces. I received a letter of appreciation for my work by "Haldiram's".

My utter lack of interest in Chartered Accountancy and the pull towards art finally compelled me take it up full-time. I decided to do an animation course. It was a risky move, but it was absolutely necessary for my happiness. However, things didn’t turn up as I had thought.

In just a few months, my mother was diagnosed with cancer. It was a very tough phase and her treatment was my responsibility. My mother needed me, but I needed her more. She is the sole-support system of my being and the idea of losing her gave me sleepless nights.

My career was nowhere, but I started doing part-time jobs. Anything to fund mom's treatment. Every penny counted. I balanced classes, projects, treatment and part-time jobs. It was extremely challenging.

Only the support of my family and friends made it possible. Thankfully, mom recovered. I took up a diploma in multimedia and animation from St. Xavier’s College and decided to put everything I had into it.

Now, after my trial by fire, I know what my strengths and shortcomings are. I asked myself a hundred times, over and over if I really wanted to give up a lucrative, easy life and do this.

I chose to ride this untamed horse, starting as a beginner with no guide by my side. Taking a decision to change my career was tough. But more tough was helping the artist in me. Now I finally, I am at peace, satisfied with the path I chose.

The master’s program at the University of Dundee is a crucial step and final step that will complete my journey. Art needs technique as much as it requires creativity.

I now know that I am a worthy and capable of being beaten into the right shape. All I need is a guide who helps me channel my creativity and hone my skills. I managed to fight the battle but now I need a little help to make it through.
