Save my 13-Year-Old From Cancer

Why I Am Fundraising?

My name is Patha Ghosh. My 13 year old son is suffering from Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. Few months ago he started falling ill and we took him to various hospitals to find out the reason for his continuous fever and back pain. Finally, the doctors advised us to undergo a test and we were shocked to fiind out he is suffering from cancer. We had to stop his studies as he had to be admitted in the hospital. I don't have a permanent job and did any job that came my way. I worked as a driver for some years. I don't have much savings and my son's treatment is now supported by my friends. He is undergoing treatment at Apollo Specialty Hospital, Chennai.

I have set up this campaign with the hope of receiving support to continue my son's treatment. We need 10 lakhs to complete his chemotherapy cycles and supportive care. He is getting treatment as an out patient. We managed to find a small place near the hospital for rent. We are unable to manage the rent and the treatment expenses. Any support at this time will be of great help.

How Will The Funds Be Utilized

Funds collected through this campaign will be transferred to Apollo to support the treatment expenses. I have attached the estimation letter from the hospital below.

Dear Supporters,

We have very good news to share with you. Siddhartha is recovering very well and his parents are excited to share their happiness with all of you. “Though there’s trouble in getting him to eat, he’s become very active and has started going to school even” says his father. He’s pursuing grade nine in schooling currently.

Here’s a recent photo of him,
He visits Chennai once every three months for check-up. His next check-up has been scheduled in May to suit his school timetable.

All of this joy and happiness in seeing Siddhartha recover healthily has been made possible with the help of your support.

Dear Supporters,

I am Uthra Nagarajan, an Open Fellow with Milaap. Siddhartha Ghosh and his parents were in Chennai recently for a check-up and I got a chance to know about Siddhartha’s health.

I met the family in a small rented room where they stayed for three days, near Apollo Speciality Cancer Hospital in Teynampet. Siddhartha’s general check-up was over the day before and he was resting, watching cartoons on the television, when I arrived. After offering me sweets, the family expressed their gratitude towards Milaap and the donors for having helped them through tough times.

Siddhartha’s health has improved and he is on the fast track to recovery. The general check-up revealed a good complete blood count (CBC). “However, he contracted chicken pox a few weeks ago and is taking medication for it,” said Partha Ghosh, his father. “Apart from the medication, he still has around three years of treatment to undergo for his condition.” His next test, a lumbar puncture, is scheduled in the second week of November.

Since Siddhartha was diagnosed in the middle of his school session, he won’t be able to start school until the next academic year. “I will go back to my old school near my house,” beamed Siddhartha. He studied in Bengali-medium curriculum and his favourite subject remains the same - Bengali. “I also like sports and am looking forward to having a lot of fun at Diwali,” he added.

Dear Supporters,

I am Sudhakar, a Milaap Open Fellow in Bengaluru. I met with Siddhartha and his father, Partha at Apollo Speciality Hospital, Anna Salai, Chennai on 25th July 2016.

Siddhartha’s last chemotherapy session ended on 22nd July 2016. The doctor has advised him for blood tests on 29th July, post which , the  future course of the treatment will be determined.

His treatment was delayed by a week because he had a bout of chickenpox in the first week of June 2016. When I met Siddhartha, he had a minor bruise on his knee. He had tripped while playing at his house a couple of days ago. Overall, he has continued to recover well and was very cheerful.

Siddhartha, a student of Class 8,  was pursuing his studies  at Swami Mahadevanand Vidyalaya, Barrackpore, Kolkata when he was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia in December 2015. He was doing very well in his studies and his teachers are now willing to admit him to the 9th standard when he rejoins school. He has got tremendous support from his school.

I couldn’t meet his mother, Shephali, who is a homemaker, as she was cooking lunch for the family at their home. On behalf of both of them, Partha said, “We are immensely thankful to each one of the contributors for donating towards my son’s treatment. There cannot be enough words to express my gratitude. We request you to keep him in your prayers.”
