Dear All,
We need to raise INR 9 lakhs before Nov 30, to install 40 mobile toilet units Gandhi Nagar colony, Sholinganallur, Chennai. Currently, there are no toilets in the area and people practice open defecation. This is especially a problem during the rains with stagnant water. Young girls and women are particularly affectedbecause of the presence of Pigs, rodents and snakes.
The toilets will be rented for three months during which time we will be able to advocate with the Corporation to help with construction of more permanent facilities.
Gandhi Nagar is home for about 10,000 families. Our interactions with many people has led to requests for urgent help with installing toilets. The area is on “encroached land” and so far the Corporation has refused to help.
