These little ones are always in my thoughts and prayers. They are from Space for nurturing creativity (SNC); the home school project aims to create individuals of value through alternate learning experiences. Based in Khumera Village in the Rudraprayag Dist. near Kedarnath mountains, Uttarakhand, SNC has 32 children and 6 teachers. Shyamavan, as they are fondly called was founded in April 2011, by Archana Bahuguna. While following the national syllabus, they have adopted the Gandhian Philosophy to create a collaborative society beyond the traditional academics. Children amongst others engage in organic farming, composting and food processing etc. Music, painting, sculpture and classical dance are part of their curriculum. Shymavan is a community cum alternative residential school that fulfills the role of both school and family. While I am confident that the model is working exceptionally well for the children there, some improvements at the facility will be very helpful.
The existing infrastructure (with basic facilities) was damaged during the floods in year 2013. To add to this, the existing structures are not strong enough to withstand the drilling of mountains for hydroelectric projects in the region. Since the location is far from the main stream business centers, funding remains a challenge. We have been working with individual donors for day today activities. SNC has not reached out to Corporates till date for funding. However, I strongly feel that funding this project will strengthen not only the existing buildings at SNC, but also strengthen our nation, through these students. Request your support to sustain this wonderful project and make their life more safe and bright. Thanking in advance, on behalf of the little ones of Shyamavan.
Would be happy to share more information on the place/programs/children, based on your interest.
