                                 Hamari Pahal-Aapka Saath
                                           -: Laadli Bitiya :-

Kotra block of Udaipur known for its garasiya tribe, extreme poverty, backwardness and loot. After 70 years of independence tribes of the area lacks basic facilities like education, health, infrastructure etc. The road to development hampered when 2/3 part of it declared protected wild life sanctuary and people has denied many rights which they were enjoying from centuries.
Tribe community of the region has suffered many challenges and ensuring quality education is one of them. Kotara average literacy rate is only 27% and worse when it comes to women literacy rate which is meagre 16% (as per census 2011).
Half the children in the rural areas where we work do not attend school, and over one third have never been to school. Through our 100 alternative schools, we offer out-of-school children access to quality primary education. At a deeper level, by educating thousands of first-generation learners and striving for equal enrolment of girls, we are slowly transforming the demand for quality education among families from the most disadvantaged backgrounds.
We are supporting more than 3200 tribal girls of 70 villages falls in ‘Fulwari ki Nal wild Life Sanctuary’ through our education programs. Every day our local volunteer ‘Daksha’ conduct four hours classes in safe & accessible place provided by community. Why I have said safe & accessible place because whole forest is full of wild life, rivers, ponds, mountains and trees. Biodiversity of the Jungle are very beautiful but it create inhibitive environment for children up to 10 year age and distances from school add vulnerability into it.
Other major challenges our children were facing is migration, half of the population migrate to nearby state Gujrat, MP and Maharashtra with or without family but in both condition girls of the family often left behind to look after old parents, cattle rearing and to conduct household chores. And during harvesting time the same girls taken to work as labour in BT cotton fields or to collect forest produce like tendu patta, wild fruits, woods etc.
Through our 100 alternative schools we are providing quality education to more than 3200 tribal girls of 6 to 14 year age group with a purpose to bridge their learning gaps so they could be enrolled or re-enrolled in formal education system. Simultaneously we are sensitizing community to keep their children education always on priority.
In order to create enabling environment in our alternative schools called ‘Sakhiyo Ki Badi’ , Shrushti has provided essential resources. It’s now almost two years since education program started in the area and we are regularly supplying study material, essential stationeries, teacher salaries, teacher training, and evaluation. But occasionally tribal girl’s demands for uniform so they could get same pride which other school going children enjoys.
This Diwali, Shrushti team has pledged to distribute uniform to our tribal girls but due to limited financial resources we are lacking to cover all girl children.
Here we are seeking your support for contribution of Rs. 200 for uniform of one girl child. We aimed for raising support for 2500 girl child and remaining will be raised from community itself. Kindly support our ‘Laadli Bitiya’ campaign and bring smile on face of innocent child.
