Who am I?
I graduated from IIT Guwahati in June 2019 with a bachelors in Mathematics and Computing and am interested in decoding the irrationalities of the 'Homo Sapiens' brain. I am specifically interested in learning about and engaging in Behavioural Economics and Decision Neuroscience research. I often wonder about how low-tech behaviour change solutions can help counter climate change and improve the lives of the poor.
I currently work as a Research Assistant at IIM Ahmedabad with Prof Arvind Sahay and assist him in a review-research in Consumer Behaviour and Decision Neuroscience. I just got selected as one of the 350 delegates from all around the world to join the conversation about global and Asia-Pacific issues at HPAIR 2020 Harvard Conference. The conference will take place at Harvard University from 14-17 February 2020 and will revolve around the topic 'Striking a balance: Vision for a Conflicted World’.
In past, I have tried to improve my calibre and helped give back to the society whenever I could.
Harvard College Project for Asian and International Relations (HPAIR) is a coveted conference that happens twice a year and a couple hundred young delegates are selected to be a part of the global and Asia-Pacific conversation about important issues of cultural, economic, environmental, social, geopolitical and technological relevance. Past speakers include Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Kim Dae-Jung, Secretary-General of the United Nations Ban Ki-moon and Nobel Peace Prize Laureate.
HPAIR Harvard 2020 will revolve around the theme ‘Striking a balance: Vision for a Conflicted World’. It’s Science and Technology Track will discuss topics like ‘A New Space Race’, ‘Fighting for AI technological Superiority’. Other topics include ‘How Communities balance Cultural Differences’, ‘How borders define Migration’, ‘Human Rights and Climate Change’.
Why HPAIR is important?
HPAIR is a perfect event to meet leaders and innovative young thinkers that are interested in furthering the Asian-International Conversation. It could act as an important milestone in my journey to understand human behaviour and contribute to technological solutions for climate change and anti-poverty.
Why I am crowdfunding?
I have been working as a research assistant at an Indian institute for the past 4 months which implies that it doesn’t pay enough for me to cover my own expenses for the visit. I receive a stipend of INR 20,000 per month (roughly USD 280/month) which makes this (roughly) USD 1590 a little difficult. I have decided to put in half a month of my stipend into the visit (almost all my savings). Which leaves me to raise roughly USD 1450.
I bore the expenses of the past two conferences in London (UK) and Siena (Italy) and this is the only time I am trying to raise funds for a conference. It may sound a bit selfish, but even small contributions could help me get there, to a platform that encourages discussions on the world’s current problems.

Registration: $450 (INR 32281)
Flight (Cheapest Available): INR 60,000
Total Estimated Expense: INR 113803.13
What I am contributing to it: INR 10,000

- Delegate to BX 2019: Attended one of the leading Behavioural Economics conferences, namely, Behavioural Exchange 2019 organised by Behavioural Insights Team UK in London. Attended discussions on topics like behavioural insights interventions in low-middle income countries, behavioural genetics and what happens when we give money for free.
- Presenter at LOD 2019: Presented our paper 'CoPASAmple: A Heuristics based Covariance Preserving Data Augmentation' in the 5th edition of International Conference on Machine Learning, Optimisation and Data Science LOD 2019 in Siena, Italy. The paper was based on our bachelor thesis and the same will be published in the proceedings of the conference in LNCS, i.e., Springer Lecture Notes in Computer Science.
- Women Emerging in Finance: Was selected to attend Women Emerging in Finance Session organised by Goldman Sachs in Bangalore, India. In a day-long session, I networked with professionals in the technical and financial industry and learnt about the new relevant innovations.
- TEDxIITGuwahati: Acted as the Chief Content Creator at the second edition of TEDx at IIT Guwahati which featured discussions on taboos in India and how people are breaking them. Accounts of challenges faced by the LGBTQ community, the specially-abled, single mothers, racial discrimination were related and was received positively by the participants.
- I often volunteered my time to contribute to improving people’s lifestyles. I volunteered, via the internet, for Tanzania Development Trust which maps areas of Tanzania where FGM (Female Genital Mutilation) prevails - to accelerate the rescuing process of afflicted girls and women. I taught kids Math and English on weekends for a year at Disha, an NGO, at IIT Guwahati.
