Help Sheela raise a shelter for homeless dogs
There are lot of helpless dogs either abandoned or left to die in the roads of Coimbatore. At the same time when they are left to breed in the streets their number might increase, becoming a menace to the people in the society.
Animal human conflict has always been an issue. Few people advice to feed the dogs in the streets and just leave them there as they can manage on their own. Feeding the strays in the street is an act of compassion, which is certainly praiseworthy. However dogs are territorial and they start to guard the place. When people walk in the night they might start barking, which can eventually turn out to be a problem in the society. This issue can be resolved when people come forward to adopt and take care of the dogs by providing good health care.
I would like to share my personal experience of adopting a stray dog. She was abandoned by her previous owner and let to roam in the streets. I decided to adopt and my family was very supportive too. She is a very soft dog even toddlers come and play with her. I was residing in a rented apartment and one fine day I got a notice that I am not supposed to keep my dog at home, as it was against the rules of the apartments. I had to stand up for the rights of my dog and make the apartment members understand what they were doing can be filed as an criminal intimidation case. Though they agreed, the harmony was disrupted and I had to look out for another place. I am always under the mercy of the house owner to keep my dog. Any pet parent would understand what would be the difficulty in such a case and am sure many of us would have undergone such a situation.
Showing compassion to animals is a fundamental duty of every citizen. It becomes our duty to protect the people who come forward to show compassion and fight against all the practical difficulties to serve.
I am raising this fund now for helping a kind couple who has taken it about themselves to take of the abandoned and sick dogs. Sheela a tailor and her husband a car driver has two college going sons. They have been taking care of ten four legged kids (stray dogs). The furry four legged are given a permanent home by this couple. They are given food, shelter and medical care. Being ardent animal lover though her salary is just for hand and mouth she has never compromised on the animal welfare she is taking care of. Since they are living in a modest accommodation they are generally driven out of their rented homes within a few months because of their fury cohabitants. At present her situation is such that she is unable to keep her dogs with her.
An open space on the outskirts is available for rent. The owner of the place is kind and helpful. He has agreed to let Sheela keep her dogs. She hopes to put up a shed in vacant space where she can live with her family and the dogs. She envisions a tomorrow where she can provide a place for these helpless canines to stay in peace . Her resources are already nil but her heart goes out to the loving canines who speak to her in their language.
Can like minded people volunteer to crowd fund the mission and bring a smile on Sheela's face? Every small contribution is welcome .
