Sharmila is a 40 year old physically disabled woman with two daughters aged 9 and 7. She is married to A.V. Kailasam and used to work at Aircel Pvt Ltd before her husband’s accident forced her to quit her job to look after him.

Kailasam who used to run a catering business before working as a sales rep for Sundaram Motors met with an accident and injured his spinal cord which has limited his mobility and ability to work.

Because of this unfortunate accident, the once happy, upward bound, lower middle class family is now plunged in despair. They have no viable source of income and mounting debts. But Sharmila is not one to give up.

She refuses to let her family slip into despair and feel that this is the time she needs to be creative and put their combined experience of running a business, customer service and sales to open a teashop which can be managed by her husband and her.

She wants to open this teashop in a place with lots of office around and plans to serve them good quality tea and snacks at affordable rates.

Being able to start this business and make it work will ensure that the family can pay off their debts, pay for Kailasam’s treatment and continue to put her girls through school and further higher education.

Being the resourceful person that she is, she also wants to employ women and men with physical disabilities to help her run and expand her business. This way, she feels, that she will be able to provide livelihood and a chance at a better future for others like her.
