Appeal for Help

Located on the 11th cross of busy Malleshwaram area in Bangalore is a serene Old Age Home that provides shelter, warmth, love and care to the elderly women who have stepped into the evening phase of life. This twilight abode started by Sri Shankari Balaga in association with Shankari Foundation is named Shankari Sandhya Sadana.

Mrs. Saroja Banappa is the founder President of Sri Shankari Balaga and Principal Trustee of Shankari Foundation. She is the leading spirit of the two organizations and has nurtured them to the present state. Her dedicated services have brought recognition from various quarters. Shankari Sandhya Sadana stands on a plot allotted by Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (Bangalore City Corporation) to Sri Shankari Balaga in recognition of its service to the society. The building was constructed with funds raised through kind and generous contributions received from Karnataka Government, Members of Parliament, Legislative Assembly and public donors. For all its operations, the organization depends on public donations.

Apart from providing shelter, Shankari Sandhya Sadana also focuses on personal wellness of the residents. It takes care of their primary health needs, helps them overcome feeling of loneliness/neglect by giving them emotional support and reassurance necessary to ward off diffidence and fear. Several activities are taken up to ensure that their mind and body are kept active. Regular yoga classes are conducted by trained yoga instructors. Health checkups are done on weekly basis by a qualified doctor.

The organization, in its constant Endeavour to reach out and help more individuals, has embarked on a new project that aims to provide accommodation to single individuals (both women and men) and also elderly couples. Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) has allotted a plot measuring 840 sq. Meters to Sri Shankari Balaga for this purpose. The plot is located in the 6th stage of Banashankari Layout, Bangalore. The estimated cost of this project is approximately Rs. 2, 00, 00,000. The construction work of this unit has already begun.
