Help Sreenu Have A Second Chance At Life

This 5 year old was abandoned by his parents. They gave him an intoxicant and left him near Thirupathi temple. He was found by Child Welfare Department Nellore in an emaciated state with a large swelling in his abdomen. Presumed to have a childhood liver cancer, he was referred to Cancer Institute Adyar, Chennai.
When he came to us, was severely malnourished and had fluid collections around his lungs and heart. He could barely eat because of the swelling. At the age of 5 he had the weight of a 2year old. He under went surgery. Luckily the swelling turned out to be tuberculosis and not cancer. He'd probably been sick with childhood TB around the time his parents abandoned him. Having suffered neglect, the disease would probably have spread all over his body causing all his symptoms and almost ended up killing him.  We treated him till he was well enough to return to the orphanage. The orphanage has also been very sincere with his medications. But if he is to survive, he needs good nutrition for a year. This boy has suffered great neglect at the hands of his parents, survived a lifethreatening infection but never once cried despite the injections and the surgery. He still smiles when he meets us at his health follow up. Please come forward to reinstate his faith in humanity. Give him a second chance at life!

Dear supporters,

Thank you every one for what you have been able to do for Sreenu!
I invite you to be a part of his journey till now. Abandoned by his parents while he was suffering from a life threatening disease, he was lucky to have been found by Mrs Sreelakshmi and Mr Perumal. Presumed to have childhood liver cancer, he was refered to us. I do not have any pictures of him at the time of admission nor before he underwent surgery, because frankly speaking i did not think the child would survive.  He was all skin and bones, struggling to breathe due to fluid collections around his heart and lungs and his liver was so big, it took up the entire space of his abdomen.
Luckily for him, it was not cancer but tuberculosis, that was making him so sick. I have not seen such a bad case of tuberculosis in the last 10 years.  We started him on treatment, initiated him on a high calorie diet and when he was well enough sent him back to his guardians. The journey to recovery has been remarkable.
I remember when he was admitted with us, he was a silent withdrawn child. Never smiled, never made eye contact, never had any interest in food or toys, and worst of all never cried, despite the needles and the pain. I was afraid he had given up on life.
I am sharing his recent pictures. I want you all to know what your contribution has made possible!
