"She is just 5 years old and has been surviving only with blood transfusions since she was 2, she needs it for every 20 days. She does not throw any tantrums when going to hospital because it is like a second home to her. The only friends she has are the kids who comes to hospital for the transfusion.  She thinks this way of life is natural. She does not know the other world that most kids of her age enjoys - going to school or playing in the streets. Farin had a normal life only for the first 2 years of her life

Farin was seemingly a healthy baby when she was born, she did not have any major health issues. When she turned 2, she began to have recurrent fever and looked very pale. Her blood count was drastically low. Tests reports revealed that she has Fanconi Anemia, a rare disease that mainly affects the bone marrow. It results in decreased production of all types of blood cells. People with this condition may have bone marrow failure, physical abnormalities, organ defects, and an increased risk of certain cancers. Initially, she needed transfusions every 2 months but as days went by she needed transfusions for every 20 days.

"For some days she is active and normal like any other kids. She talks a lot and likes to play with her toys but when her blood count drops she becomes extremely weak , she can't even walk on her own, she gets better only after the transfusion. This has been the routine for the past 3 years. We have never taken her outside anywhere except to hospital fearing infections. Doctors have told us that if she gets any viral infection, her condition will get worse." - Fathima, Mother.

I managed all these years with just Rs 12,000 as income, transplant is beyond my means

Sirajudwen works in a footwear shop in Chennai. He earns Rs 12,000 per month. In these 3 years he has spent nearly 10 lakh. He sold all the jewels he had, borrowed heavily from his friends, colleagues and relatives. Every time he has to spend Rs 20,000 for a transfusion. He has been constantly borrowing and struggling every month. Now he needs Rs 33.5 lakh for the transplant and he is left with nothing in his hands.
