In Mumbai 60% of the population lives in the slum suffering from inadequate amenities like water, sanitation, school, play ground etc. This situation is worst in M East Ward slums where 77.55% population lives in slums. Youth in the slums are affected by poor quality of education, lack of supporting funds to complete education and lack of formal skill training. As a result of which they are largely involved in low profile jobs like jari worker, driver, office boy, watchmen, house keeping jobs etc. These jobs barely allow them to financially stablise themselves or thier families in future.
Sarathya is a start-up organization with the mission to create youth leaders in the slum community. As a part of community micro enterprise development program, we have motivated slum youth to create a better livilihood for themselves. Having conducted career guidance sessions, motivational lectures and micro enterprise development training programs, we have reached to 555 young individuals to create a sustainable living. We have some successful stories in fast food industry where the local youth started thier own fast food joints and created employment for similar others in this process.
