    Sankalp India Foundation

    from Bengaluru, Karnataka

Rupavathi is 5-year-old girl, born to very poor parents. Her father is an office boy in a school in Bangalore. When she was 6 months old, her family was told that she is born with thalassemia and will not be able to produce red blood cells. Since then she has been on chronic blood transfusion therapy. The family is receiving blood transfusions and medication free of cost at Indira Gandhi Insititute of Child Health supported by Sankalp India Foundation. In January 2015, Rupavathi's family was offered free HLA typing - a test which is used to find out if the option of complete cure is there for the child. Fortunately, Rupavathi had a perfect match with her sister. Rupavathi can get completely cured from thalassemia by Bone marrow transplant. The family needs financial support to be able to proceed with the transplant.

The BMT is planned for her at People Tree Centre of Bone Marrow Transplant, Bangalore. The centre is managed by Sankalp and supported by Cure2Children, Italy. This centre is 'not for profit' and is offering transplant at INR 8.5 lakhs .

Rupavathi’s parents will not be able to afford the procedure expenses. Hence we from Sankalp request you to contribute to give her independence from Thalasemmia. The estimate of Rs. 8.5 lakhs include pre transplant, tranplant and post transplant costs.

Sankalp’s Program for Thalassemia Cure seeks to identify the most worthycandidates from among the 3000+children who are suffering from thalassemia and offer them the permanent curative option, thus saving them from the misery of a lifetime. Cost of BMT in India is INR. 15,00,000/- upwards, thereby making it inaccessible to the poor who are at the greatest risk of death because of thalassemia. Sankalp Foundation is making arrangements for the transplant at just around Rs 8 -9 lakhs.

So far 3 children supported by us have successfully undergone transplants in Jaipur. The children are doing very well now. We have sought to bring our services to Bangalore. Our unit in Bangalore will be called People Tree Hospitals Centre for BMT Managed by Sankalp India Foundation, and is in association with Cure2Children, Italy.

We request your support in contributing towards BMT procedure of Rupavathi on Milaap.
