Dear Supporters,

The Rotary Club of Khadki, Pune is seeking to raise funds to help administer HPV vaccinations to prevent cervical cancer in 1000 young underprivileged girls across Pune.

185 women die of cervical cancer every day. Thats one death every 8 minutes. All these deaths are preventable! However, the lack of awareness and high cost of vaccinations are the two major barriers for the prevention of cervical cancer cases - a problem this initiative aims to solve.

The Problem
India alone accounts for one-fourth of global burden of cervical cancers (Study by ASSOCHAM-National Institute of Cancer Prevention and Research). As the second most common cancer in women (after breast cancer), Cervical Cancer deaths are most common in women aged 15-44 years of age. Almost 100% of the cases are caused by long-term persistent infections of the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) and can be easily prevented by vaccinations or early screening and detection. However, with appallingly low awareness for screening and high cost of vaccinations (which can go upto INR 8000 for the 2 required doses), Cervical Cancer is a major public health problem in India today.

The Solution
Focussing on prevention rather than cure,  Rotary Club of Khadki, Pune and all its stakeholders have joined hands to create awareness about the threat of Cervical Cancer in women and vaccinate 1000 young underprivileged girls aged 9-14, primarily from Government & local Corporation schools in and around Pune city.

The Ask
The Rotary Club will source vaccinations at subsidised rates and target 1,000 girls aged 9-14. We seek your support to fund the cost of vaccinations (around 4000 per beneficiary). This would require a total amount of Rs. 4,00,000 which we seek to raise through your support.
